December 2016

Come and join us for our second Christmas Film Club meeting on Friday afternoon, December 16. We will begin with a mini-workshop on Christmas adverts and how they could be used in the classroom. Following that we will look at the darker side of Christmas - the horror story – and examine some films which explore this theme. We will look in particular at the classic Shakespearian themed “Theatre of Blood”, starring Vincent Price, which will also provide a fitting close to the year of events marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Please help us get in the Christmas mood in the Libra Café (downstairs) starting at 4:00pm on Friday, December 16. The event will finish at around 6:30pm. And feel free to bring some festive nibbles to share! :)

February 2016

After its very successful launch in December, the IATEFL-H Film Club will continue in 2016 with a series of film workshops featuring adaptations and retellings of some of the most popular plays of Shakespeare to mark the 400<>th anniversary of his death. We begin with Baz Luhrmann’s vibrant re-imagining of Romeo and Juliet, which was released in 1996 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. We will take a look at the film and discuss its treatment of the original play.

Date: February 26th 2016 4 pm - 6.30 pm

Place: Libra Café (Budapest, 1085 Kölcsey u. 2.)

You can find more about the film here.

December 2015

IATEFL-Hungary is proud to launch their first ever Film Club event - join us for a happy, relaxing, and festive event before Christmas!

Date: December 18th 2015, 5pm - 8pm

Place: Libra Café (Budapest, 1085 Kölcsey u. 2.)

We are going to watch a classic Christmas film, one of the most famous Christmas films in English, It's a Wonderful Life. It's a lovely film (a kind of retelling of a Christmas Carol set in a small American town just after WWII). Frank Prescott, our host for the event, will introduce the film with a few pre-film warmers and we will have a short discussion about it afterwards.

You can find out more about the film here: http://www.filmsite.org/itsa.html
The event is free, but you could bring along some cookies to make it more special - we'll also offer coffee and tea :)

Do come along!
